‘MALDEN’
New mural for Malden, WV. The painting was done on poly tab (a non woven fabric that is painted in-studio then permanently installed with gel medium) over multiple weeks.

The mural welcomes viewers as they enter the Malden area. It’s a project of the Upper Kanawha Trails initiative which is funded by the Kanawha County Commission, Benedum Foundation and Charleston Area Alliance. Arts Amplified helped coordinate the art side and is how I got involved. The folks at JQ Dickinson Salt-Works also provided support, thanks to everyone involved and for the opportunity. Also thanks to all of the folks who stopped by during the installation to share kind words.

The painting depicts notable history of the area; Booker T. Washington lived here as a boy after the Civil War, the area was the largest producer of salt during the 1800s, the drilling technology for salt, oil, and gas was developed here, and the first African Zion Baptist church in the state was founded here as well.
